Terms and Conditions

 

Free 'medium res' image users

Registered free image users may download images from the Royal Pavilion and Museums' collections free of charge up to a maximum size of 800 x 800 pixels. These digital files are considered works supplied under the terms of an unembedded Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 3.0 Unported (CC BY-NC-ND 3.0) Creative Commons licence. Images downloaded by these users may be used with relative freedom, but the following restrictions apply:

 

  1. The image may not be used for any commercial purpose.
  2. Where published, the image must be credited to 'The Royal Pavilion and Museums, Brighton & Hove', unless otherwise indicated.
  3. The image must not be edited, manipulated or otherwise distorted.
 
Activities that might be considered commercial include, but are not limited to:
 
  • The use of the image in a product that is made available for sale.
  • Promotional use or advertising by any organisation other than a not for profit.
  • Displayed in a public space by any organisation other than a not for profit.
 

 

 Press

Registered Press users may download selected images free of charge for illustrating news stories relating to the sites, collections, exhibitions and activities of the Royal Pavilion and Museums. Two restrictions apply to the use of images under this licence:

 

  1. The published image must be credited according to the credit line accompanying the image record.
  2. The image must not be edited, manipulated or otherwise distorted.
 

Commercial Use

Commercial use of our images is governed by terms and conditions that will be supplied by a separate licence agreement following approval of the proposed use.

 

Personal Use 

Hi-res images purchased for personal use only are governed by the following terms:

 

1. The Licensee is granted permission to reproduce  the image for non-commercial purposes only. Commercial purposes include, but are not limited to: the sale of any product reproducing the image in whole or in part; the reproduction of the image by print or electronic means by any organisation; the display of the image in a physical space or internet platform. 

2. The image must not be displayed in any space that is open to the public without separate permission.

3. The Licensee must not distribute the image or pass to any other party other than for the sole purpose of supporting their private use of the image.

4. The Rights that are granted to the Licensee in respect of the Image are non-exclusive. 

5. Copyright in the Image remains the property of the Royal Pavilion & Museums unless otherwise stated. 

6. The Royal Pavilion & Museums shall not be liable for any loss or damage suffered by the Licensee or by any third party arising from the use of any of the Image.

 

No variation of the terms and conditions set out herein shall be effective unless agreed in writing by both parties.
